Totanés a peaceful, ideal for rural tourism, where to enjoy the nature and where to go hiking or excursions to nearby towns people.
It is perhaps the oldest human settlement in the area, and this is confirmed by the boar or Celtiberian Toro currently located in the main square of the town. Also in Totanés there are archaeological remains that are indicating the age of the population, as they are a Roman wall and tombs of the same origin located in the vicinity of, a matter which is not surprising since one of these Roman roads starting I am passing by Toledo Guadamur, Polan, Noez, Totanés, Menasalbas, Puerto del Marchés, etc. up to Mérida.
Totanés remained inhabited Visigoth era, a time when there was a monastic Basilica dedicated to the cult of San Felix, founded by Eterio and his wife Teudosinda. After Visigoth town house, in the first half of the twelfth century it began a repopulation by Toledo Mozarabic, possibly stabilizing in the thirteenth century. Mozarab descendants still persisted in the eighteenth century, as witnessed by the Cadastre of Ensenada in 1752.
If anything characterizes the town are the Celtiberian animal sculptures, it is a very deteriorated boar and bull in good condition located on a pedestal in the square, found in the town in the late nineteenth century. Keep similarity with the Bulls of Guisando and is very likely to be of vetones boars. On the basis of this sculpture there are several theories: the first is the funeral stele, based on the iconography representing the pig as an animal obituary related aspects; a second, monuments would exalt the role of livestock wealth of the area; Finally, they would indicate either the glens by livestock that ran well enclosures where livestock was collected, having the protective nature sculpture won.
In the main square is the Town Hall and next to it the Inmaculada Concepción Parish Church, declared a National Monument. In the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century, a rectangular nave, the purest Moorish style was attached. Into the socket under the paneling you can be read in Chapter beautiful Gothic, date of consecration during the Fernando Catolico and being Archbishop of Toledo, Cardinal Cisneros.
