Mora

Mora is located 30 kilometres southeast of the city of Toledo, communicating with it through the CM - 42, highway of the vineyards, departure to Mora km. 19.

During the war of the communities, in 1521, the town was sacked by imperial troops and a century later, specifically in 1610, Felipe III granted the title of count of Mora to Don Francisco de Rojas Guevara, becoming head of county municipality.

The Arab invasion was not the only occupation that was given, since at the time of the Napoleonic invasion between 1808 and 1815, the municipality was taken by French troops under the command of General Dijon, which was fnalmente defeated in the vicinity of the city of Toledo in the war of independence.

It is in the Decade of the 1920s when Mora starts to enjoy great economic splendour with obvious signs of development in your industry and booming trade and marketing of its products (oils, wines, soaps, sweets). All this, together with the castle of Peñas Negras made up the picture of Mora. This fortress is located in the mountains with the same name, about 5 kilometers from the town East. The town, engaged in production of high quality olive oils, offers route guided "understanding oil" (appointment) with the fn that visitors can learn about the natural and cultural heritage linked to this excellent product. It is interesting to see the collection of pieces which houses the Museum of oil (visit hours Mon-Fri: 10:00-14:00 h; afternoons and S-0, by appointment), visit the facilities where the oil is produced and a wine-tasting to know the varieties of olive, which is made with each of the oils. This is more a tourist proposal to come to know Mora and its province.
