The municipality of Los Navalmorales is located to the Northwest of the Montes de Toledo, on the boundary between the natural regions of the Montes de Toledo and la Jara. To get it, from Toledo take the CM-401, approximately during some 70 kilome - tros, passing through the towns of Polan, Galvez and Navahermosa.
It is surrounded by a natural landscape of great beauty, keeping an interesting history along with a very attractive natural and monumental heritage, all this makes the place an ideal destination to enjoy rural tourism.
The village of Los Navalmorales, today, is formed by two large districts, divided by the constant stream of water from a stream, posed a refejo of what originally were two separate towns. One of them, Navalmoral de Pusa, acquired the privilege of villazgo granted by Felipe IV, and the other Navalmoral de Toledo belonging to the jurisdiction of the Imperial City. Both neighbourhoods are still a clear difference, which is noticeable in the typology of the buildings.
The old town of Santa Maria de Herrera, is located within its municipal name that received the first population must have exist in the Northwest of the mountains. Its origin goes back to the 12th century, and its name may be due to an ancient church or sanctuary dedicated to Santa Maria and mines and Smithies (de Herrera).
We started our tour in the Plaza of the roll, presiding over which we find the Town Hall, with some of the most emblematic buildings of the town. In the Center stands a famante Court roll, recently established.
We continue in the street Concepcion, one of the main shopping streets, reaching El Ejido, where we can admire the remains of the ancient convent of the Capuchins, founded in 1736 of Baroque style, declared of Cultural interest. What was the orchard of the convent, today is the Municipal Park, with parterres, ponds and playgrounds, he enjoyed by young and old.
From here we went to the parish church Our Lady of old, 17TH century Renaissance style building. It stresses on one side, the upper dome and the main altar, with a stunning gold altarpiece of Baroque style, and on the other its Tower 32 meters high, well known in the province as "The good girl".
In addition to the Church, in the municipality are several religious architectures such as: La Ermita de San Antonio (at your origin Church of Navalmoral de Toledo), the chapel of los Remedios (is the oldest religious building in Los Navalmorales) and the Hermitage of San Sebastián. The visit to this last is of forces - do fulfillment for the traveller who is passing through Los Navalmorales, since its location in the mountains of the Saint allows us to enjoy the contrast of landscapes offered by the sierra de Gredos, the Montes de Toledo and the Valley of the river Tagus.
Exist in Los Navalmorales other buildings declared property of Cultural interest, that make it attractive to ride through the streets of the town: the House of Hermosilla, House in the calle Moral (was a former convent), and which is now home of the retiree, the three century XIX and historicist style.
The local gastronomy is an added attraction. It highlights the exceptional quality of Virgin olive oil extra (listed as one of the best in the world) which produce different mills in the town, the craftsman Marzipan, honey and cheese, exported the latter to countries inside and outside the European Union.
A sample of the good done in the table found in hunting, breadcrumbs, soup gazpacho, and desserts as the puches, Galicians, delicious fried doughnuts and pestiños dishes.
Traditional craftsmanship has in the work done in wrought iron and wood its main exponent, without forgetting the handbags and embroidery.
