The population of Hontanar be formed in the late fourteenth century or early fifteenth century, since according Relations Felipe II, the locals speak of an origin which goes back 200 years ago. Written data from 1455, the year in which it is mentioned to Diego Fernandez de Medina as a cure for Hontanar, which is cited as Fontanal are also known.
Within the municipality of Hontanar, it highlights the site Malamoneda area repopulated in the twelfth century by Alfonso Tellez, who in 1210 received from Alfonso VIII here. In 1226 he sold the Archbishop Jiménez de Rada, along with other villages in the mountains.
